Tick Testing

The Research and Productivity Council is offering testing of ticks for Borrelia burgdorferi, Borrelia garinii and afzelii, the causative agents of Lyme disease. Test results will be available no later than 3 days from receipt of sample(s) and will indicate the detection or non-detection of these bacteria.

Please note:
The test results are not meant to determine whether an individual or pet has contracted Lyme disease or whether medical treatment is necessary. The results are indicative of the presence/absence of Borrelia burgdorferi, Borrelia garinii and Borrelia afzelii within the tick only and do not provide information on transmission.

Any decisions regarding your health or the health of a pet/dependent should be made with consultation of a medical professional.

Submission of a Tick Sample

Any ticks removed from pets, wildlife or people should be stored by sealing them in a clean container such as a plastic baggie. The tick can be dropped off directly or mailed to our Fredericton location. You can access our downloadable and printable sample submission form here.

Note: If you are unable to send or drop off the tick for a prolonged period of time, we suggest putting it in your freezer until you are ready to submit it.
