GENOTYPING
Genotyping or DNA fingerprinting has quickly become an important tool to assist in the identification and tracking of living things, from bacteria, to plants to humans. Not just a tool for use in CSI, genotyping has many uses in agriculture, aquaculture and wildlife management from identification of individual animals and assignment of parentage, to determining the origin population of individuals or as a genetic tag for animal and material traceability. Among the most current applications of genotyping include the correlation of specific genes and gene variations with quantitative and economically important traits that can be used to enhance the rate of selection in breeding programs.
Our state of the art molecular biology lab employs low to high throughput DNA extraction methods to prepare your samples for microsatellite/STR genotyping or SNP genotyping using the latest and most flexible instrumentation platforms that include:
Microsatellite or STR-based genotyping using ABI 3130XL/ABI 3500XL Genetic Analyzer
SNP genotyping using the Agena Mass Arra
EXISTING MARKER PANELS:
Atlantic salmon continent of origin (King 7)
Atlantic salmon panels for parentage assignment and traceability
Atlantic cod
Haddock
Moose
White tailed and Mule Deer
Cannabis
CUSTOM MARKER PANELS:
If you are in need of a marker panel for your species of interest, we can help you develop a robust and efficient panel to suit your needs. Alternatively, if you have a panel of your own design that you would like run on your samples, we can also help you with that.
DOWNSTREAM ASSISTANCE:
We can help you use genotype information to develop or enhance broodstock, trace stocks within your production system, and help develop a database to store the molecular fingerprints of your genetic material for use in germline identification.
Wildlife Genotyping
RPC has been providing wildlife testing services to wildlife law enforcement for over a decade. Our genotyping services have ISO 9001:2015 internationally recognized standards to ensure the quality of our wildlife testing.
SERVICES:
Species Identification
DNA based analysis to determine the species origin of a sample.
Individual Identification (Deer and Moose):
DNA based analysis to determine the unique DNA fingerprint of an individual. This analysis can be used to determine whether two samples (e.g. blood on a knife and meat in a freezer) are from the same animal.Gender Typing
DNA based analysis to determine the sex (male or female) of a sample.Population Studies
DNA based analyses which can be used to characterize wildlife populations and to determine the population from which a sample originated.Expert Testimony and Consultation
RPC’s wildlife scientists and technicians may be available to provide expert testimony.
ANALYSIS CAN BE PERFORMED ON:
Meat (raw & processed)
Skin
Blood
Hair
Scat
Bones with meat
Cannabis Genotyping
Genotyping or DNA fingerprinting is an important tool to assist in the identification and tracking of living things, from bacteria to plants to humans. Cannabis genotyping and comparison has a variety of useful applications – identification of individual cultivars or stains, as a tool to compare unknown daughters (clones) to known mother (stock) plants, or traceability throughout the cannabis process workflow, just to name a few.
CANNABIS GENOTYPING SERVICES:
Cannabis DNA can be extracted from a variety of different substrates such as flowers, leaf, stem, or seeds. The extracts are amplified using a novel multiplex microsatellite panel designed from markers found in published scientific literature. After amplification, the samples are electrophoresed and analyzed for allele composition. Resulting genotypes are compared, and the Random Match Probability (RMP) is used to determine the probability that two samples have arisen from the same genetic stock.
TESTING OPTIONS:
Clients can submit multiple samples for genotype comparison, or single samples for individual genotyping.
