TICK TESTING FOR LYME-CAUSING BACTERIA
RPC offers testing of ticks for Borrelia burgdorferi, Borrelia gariniiand afzelii, the causative agents of Lyme disease. Test results will be available no later than 3 days from receipt of sample(s) and will indicate the detection or non-detection of these bacteria.
Please note:
The test results are not meant to determine whether an individual or pet has contracted Lyme disease or whether medical treatment is necessary. The results are indicative of the presence/absence of Borrelia burgdorferi, Borrelia garinii and Borrelia afzelii within the tick only and do not provide information on transmission.
Any decisions regarding your health or the health of a pet/dependent should be made with consultation of a medical professional.
SUBMISSION OF A TICK SAMPLE
Any ticks removed from pets, wildlife or people should be stored by sealing them in a clean container such as a plastic baggie. The tick can be dropped off directly or mailed to our Fredericton location. You can access our downloadable and printable sample submission form here.
Note: If you are unable to send or drop off the tick for a prolonged period of time, we suggest putting it in your freezer until you are ready to submit it.
