From Workshop to Wide Demand:
Supporting the Production of a Recognized Woodworking Tool

At RPC, much of our engineering work happens behind the scenes — supporting manufacturers as they move from small‑batch or custom production into something more scalable, repeatable, and sustainable. One such example is our ongoing collaboration with RC Woodworking Hand Tools Inc., founded by master woodworker and educator Rob Cosman.

RC Woodworking is well known within the woodworking community for precision tools designed by woodworkers, for woodworkers. Several years ago, RPC became involved with RC Woodworking to support the production of what would become one of its most in‑demand tools: a dovetail back saw designed for fine joinery work.

Engineering for Scalability Without Compromising Quality

While the saw was already well‑regarded for its design and performance, growing demand created new challenges — particularly around consistency, repeatability, and the ability to supply the market at scale. RPC’s engineering team worked closely with RC Woodworking to support manufacturing processes and production planning for key components of the saw.

The focus was not on changing the product’s identity or craftsmanship, but on enabling reliable production while preserving the quality that customers expected from a specialty woodworking tool.

Recognized by a Trusted Third‑Party Source

In 2025, RC Woodworking’s dovetail back saw was recognized by BobVila.com as the Best Overall Dovetail Back Saw, based on its design, performance, and overall value within the category. The recognition was published as part of BobVila.com’s broader tool and workshop gear reviews and remains publicly available online.

This recognition is particularly notable given Bob Vila’s long‑standing reputation in the DIY, renovation, and construction space, built through decades of television programming, publishing, and independent product reviews.

A Long‑Term Production Partnership

For RPC, this saw represents more than a single project. To this day, the majority of our regular production work with RC Woodworking supports components for this specific tool — a clear example of how engineering, manufacturing support, and long‑term collaboration can help a niche product meet sustained market demand.

One Example Among Many

This collaboration is just one example of how RPC Engineering Services helps clients succeed — whether they are refining a product, solving a production challenge, or scaling up to meet growing demand. From concept through production, our role is to support our clients’ goals with practical, real‑world engineering solutions.
