LAB TECHNICIAN - ORGANIC CHEMISTRY

The Research and Productivity Council (RPC) is NB’s provincial research organization, a research & technology organization that provides analytical and applied research services. In business since 1962, we serve over 1000 clients annually from our locations in Fredericton and Moncton, New Brunswick.

We are recruiting to fill a full-time permanent position for a Lab Technician-Organic Chemistry who will work out of our Fredericton location and report to the Director - Organic Analytical Services.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Joining a group of experienced chemists in a commercial lab setting, the successful candidate(s) work will consist of various tasks including the preparation, extraction and analysis of various sample matrices, performing daily QA/QC checks, lab maintenance, disposing of waste, etc. The position is ideally suited to an individual with attention to detail and who is capable of working in a self-directed manner. Good communication skills are necessary for working within a fast-paced commercial laboratory setting cooperatively within a group of technicians.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prep work area for the day

  • Receive and record data from shipments (samples)

  • Check all required temp’s (water, fridge & freezers)

  • Test and set up lab equipment

  • Prep samples as required adhering to appropriate SOP(s)

  • Understand and use of complex lab machinery and computer programs to conduct tests

  • Perform primary validation of data and enter it into LIMS

  • Chemical and other supply inventory / maintenance

  • Clean dishes

  • Monthly maintenance of equipment

  • Maintain glassware by picking up, cleaning, washing, and sterilizing

  • Ensure successful testing by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for repairs

  • Report on any health and safety issues

  • Participate in the QMS and complete any QMS related tasks as required

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Diploma or BSc. in Chemistry.

  • An aptitude for working effectively in a fast-paced and technically challenging environment.

  • An understanding of laboratory QA/QC and electronic data handling.

  • Prior experience in a commercial laboratory would be considered an asset.

  • Organization, initiative, and attention to detail are highly desirable.

  • Able to work independently as well as within a team setting.

Hours of work are 8:15 to 4:30 Monday through Friday.  Compensation range is $45,162 to $52,936. RPC offers a generous employee benefit plan including a defined benefit pension plan, top up for maternity leave, wellness rebates, paid leave, and more.
