DIRECTOR OF ENGINEERING
The New Brunswick Research and Productivity Council (RPC) is New Brunswick’s applied research and technology organization, helping industry, government, and communities improve productivity, competitiveness, and sustainability. Through engineering, applied science, and technology services, RPC supports clients across manufacturing, natural resources, energy, and emerging sectors.
RPC is seeking a Director of Engineering to lead and grow its engineering function with a strong emphasis on productivity improvement, technology adoption, and client impact.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
This is a senior leadership role for a Professional Engineer who combines technical depth with business acumen, public credibility, and the ability to translate technology into measurable results for industry. The successful candidate will be a visible ambassador for RPC—working directly with clients, partners, and government while building high-performing teams and expanding RPC’s engineering services.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic & Technical Leadership
Provide overall leadership and direction for RPC’s engineering services, ensuring technical excellence, quality, and safety.
Champion productivity improvement initiatives, including process optimization, automation, digitalization, advanced manufacturing, and applied engineering solutions.
Guide technology adoption efforts by translating emerging technologies into practical, value-driven solutions for clients.
Ensure compliance with professional engineering standards, quality systems, and applicable regulations.
Business Development & Client Engagement
Lead and support business development activities, including meeting clients, leading business development/marketing plans for engineering, identifying opportunities, preparing proposals, and closing projects.
Act as a trusted technical advisor to industry, government, and institutional partners.
Represent RPC at industry events, conferences, client meetings, and public forums.
Contribute to the growth of RPC’s engineering portfolio by identifying new service offerings and strategic partnerships.
People & Operational Leadership
Lead, mentor, and develop a multidisciplinary team of engineers and technical professionals.
Oversee departmental planning, budgeting, resource allocation, and performance management.
Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Work closely with other RPC directors to deliver integrated, client-focused solutions.
Communication & Public Presence
Serve as a confident, credible public speaker on engineering, productivity, and technology topics.
Contribute to presentations, reports, thought leadership, and stakeholder communications.
Support RPC’s mandate through clear, professional communication with clients, partners, and funders.
REQUIREMENTS:
Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) licensed in New Brunswick or eligible for licensure.
Minimum of 5 years senior-level experience in engineering leadership within industry, consulting, applied research, or technology services.
Demonstrated success delivering productivity improvements through engineering, automation, digitalization, or technology implementation.
Minimum of 5 years senior-level experience working directly with clients and stakeholders.
Proven ability to lead teams, manage complex projects, and deliver results.
Experience in business development, proposal development, and revenue growth.
Valid Class 5 driver’s license as issued by the Province of New Brunswick.
Written and spoken competence in English is required.
Highly Desirable
Strong public speaking and presentation skills, including experience representing an organization externally.
Bilingual (English and French). Please state your language capability.
Experience working with manufacturing, industrial operations, energy, or technology-driven organizations.
