Bringing
Home the Bacon . . . from Chile!
![]()

The Chilean pork industry exports its product to Europe, which has stringent, ever-tightening requirements for products to be certified dioxin-free. Dioxins can be highly toxic and persistent; consequently, very low-level detection limits are necessary and such limits require highly specialized equipment, procedures and personnel to conduct tests to accredited standards. RPC's dioxin testing capability is world-class, and one of only a few accredited labs in Canada. When the Chilean pork producers needed help in monitoring dioxin levels, they turned to RPC to provide it.
Our clients in Chile freeze samples of pork flesh and courier them to RPC's labs in Fredericton where dioxin levels are measured and reported back to Chile. Once the product is verified to be compliant with import regulations, the pork can be shipped to European Union countries.
The combined effects of environmental contaminants and the globalization of the food chain places increasing emphasis on the importance of food safety. RPC is well positioned to apply our science capability to help with these challenges. While our services are recognized and acquired internationally, we regularly work with local food and beverage processes to address their needs for dioxin analysis.
In the case of Chilean pork exports, the piggy goes to RPC before he goes to market.
