Partnering in Innovative Minds

RPC’s mission is to assist small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) to develop and apply new technology. One of the many ways this is being achieved is through a partnership with the National Research Council’s Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC-IRAP).

To progress an idea, clients often need only a small amount of technical assistance to advance their project. This could be a feasibility study, a proof of concept, a prototype, an evaluation, a test or an analysis that might only require three days’ service or less of a scientist, engineer or technologist. As RPC encounters clients with such needs, they are identified to NRC-IRAP with a brief description of the project. If the client qualifies, the work proceeds with the costs covered by IRAP.

These small projects tend not to make the headlines but are a critical component of New Brunswick’s innovation system. They can lead to process improvements, new products or new processes that contribute to tInnovMindshe success of SMEs. Occasionally, they lead to breakthrough innovations but more often it is the incremental innovations that help businesses remain competitive.

During the past year, working with seven of NRC’s Industrial Technology Advisors throughout New Brunswick, RPC assisted 22 clients with services ranging from product development through to process optimization. Project examples included the design of a machine to assist in drumstick manufacturing, selection of solutions for reduced food frying times, investigation of technology to reduce freezing points for anti-icing products, and numerous product development initiatives.

As more New Brunswick SMEs recognize that innovation is crucial to their competitiveness,
RPC is ready to partner.
