For
Sale: 'High' Quality Housing
![]()

RPC's Air Quality group has enjoyed increasing demand for its services from the residential market and is frequently called in to conduct inspections of homes about to be purchased or sold, or when there is concern provoked by an illness, or the sighting of visible mould. Mould is an increasingly common problem and concern that RPC has the ability to detect and identify. One of the interesting related projects has been the inspection and testing of former marijuana grow houses.
The Air Quality group was asked to inspect and test a number of marijuana grow houses in the Moncton area this past year. The RCMP had seized the houses and all the plants had been removed prior to the visit. The houses were inspected for any visible mould and testing was conducted for airborne spores. Bulk samples and swabs were also collected where visible mould was found. The concrete floors were also tested for herbicides and pesticides. Benzothiazole, a fungicide and an anti-microbial agent was detected in most of the houses. Compounds dronabinol and cannabinol (narcotics) were also detected indicating marijuana plants had been present in the houses.
Once all the mould was removed and the floors cleaned, a second visit was made to verify that the clean up was successful and the air quality was acceptable prior to the houses going on the market.
RPC is pleased to be supporting engineering consultants and home owners in detecting mould problems and has experienced increasing demand for these services.
