Aquaculture Research Scientist

An aquaculture research scientist should have a background in doctoral or post-doctoral research, or equivalent work experience, in the application of microbiology and molecular biology (including protein and nucleic acid techniques) to research and diagnose issues related to fish health. An individual would need to be a team player skilled at managing a group of high performance scientists and technicians, and associated research projects; this individual would also need to be able to communicate easily with RPC's clients.

Qualifications:

• Familiarity with the invasive properties of intracellular bacteria in cold water teleost fish
• Understanding of host-pathogen interactions of fish
• Broad appreciation of the strengths and weaknesses of various clinical diagnostic tests ranging from immunoassays to PCR-based methods for bacterial and viral pathogens
• Experience in the cloning and expression of recombinant proteins and vectors into Gram-positive and -negative bacterial hosts, experience in managing research quarantine unit based trials
• Strong communication skills
